Community Playlist: Your Mood Right Now
For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver is irrefutably a “winter” album, right? As soon as it gets cold enough to anticipate frost on the windows and the addition of knitted gloves to your everyday wardrobe, you can count on me to queue “Re: Stacks” or “Blindsided” instinctively. However, in conversation with friends I learned that for some, my wintry album is the comfort soundtrack to their fall season. With firm opinions and back-and-forth debates about what aligns an album with a quarter of the year, we settled on the notion that everyone experiences music differently.
Sometimes gauging the emotions of the people around you is difficult. Everyone experiences a moment in time in an entirely individual way with entirely individual emotions and perspectives. With community playlists, we get the chance to see what music people turn to with the consideration of a given context. It is almost as if we are able to gain a wider understanding of the vastness of society’s instinctive thoughts. After all, music does help us to express what words cannot.
For our first community playlist, we asked people to “name a song that represents your mood right now.” With submissions ranging from the confident pop of Dua Lipa’s “Physical” to the narrative bluegrass of Dierks Bentley’s “What Was I Thinkin’,” it’s fun to consider what sorts of inspiration prompted the responses listeners shared with Ode Magazine’s Instagram earlier this week. Take a look at our first community playlist below.
